Celebrating all things French

Hilary de Joux – Coordinator of French

In Week 8 of Term 3 all Year 8 French language students participated in three days of French Immersion activities.

This event allowed students to develop their French language skills and creativity whilst working on a number of different projects individually and in groups. Each group was named after a region of France. Together they created a short film in French to celebrate the 40th Birthday of Emanuel School, to share with each other and with other French speaking students. The films were highly creative and impressive, showcasing their talent and collaboration.

During the Immersion event, Year 8 was joined by all French students at Emanuel School to participate in a cooking incursion in the Lehrer Family Building (MPH). Chef Luca taught the students how to make traditional French crêpes and even flip them!  Everyone agreed that this was à real highlight  and the crêpes were just delicious, including Mr Watt, who described his crêpe citron-beurre-sucre as ‘vraiment délicieuse’

Other group activities included researching the group’s region of France, finding out about French culture and fashion, creating a garment, drawing or accessory and participating in a fashion parade to demonstrate their new knowledge and skills, complete with catwalk and music. We shared a French themed picnic and a morning tea with a traditional French drink Orangina, and watched à French film “Belle and Sebastien L the adventure continues”

French Immersion was a truly wonderful, happy experience and we can’t wait for next year!
