Primary Leadership

From the Chess Leaders

Hello! We are the Chess Leaders, Theo Salek, Alexander Yu and William Yu. We will be writing about what Chess Leaders do, what we love about it, and how our year has been.

On Mondays at lunch, we teach Chess to the Year K-2s. Teaching them is so much fun! We teach them puzzles, show them their mistakes from their previous games and how to fix them and even host tournaments for them. They always enjoy Chess Club and always look forward to the next Chess session.

The Friday Chess Club is the learning part of the job. Mr. Feldman teaches us all about the tactics and strategies of the game. We often help each other out and invite new students to join us to learn the basics and important tips for starting out. Then, we host a competitive mini tournament for everyone to play each other.

The thing we have enjoyed most about being a Chess Leader is that we can learn and teach others the game we really love.

From the Gross Motor Leaders

This year has been an excellent year for Gross Motor leaders, as we got to do lots of fun activities. An activity we did in Terms 1 and 2 was relaying with the Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2 children. We would say a specific set of movements, like frog jumps then strike a pose then run back and the students would follow.

In Term 3 we were very fortunate to do the skip-a-thon where we would increase our skipping abilities and cardio health.

In Term 4, on Tuesdays, we would set up in Waxman drive, for Year Ks and do lots of relays. For Years 1 and 2 they get to choose to either play with bean bags, skipping ropes, hula hoops or a game of their choice like survival tag or stuck in the mud. On Wednesdays, we go to the basketball courts where we do rotations with Year 1 and 2 children. For the Kindergarten students, we would show them activities to see who can win races.

We always had lots of fun playing games with the younger years and teaching them excellent activities. We hope next year’s Gross Motor Leaders have just as much fun as we did.

From the SRC Leaders

I’m Zack and I am the Year 6 SRC leader for 2022. I have really enjoyed my experience as an SRC Leader. When I look back at what we have done this year I am very proud of how much money for charities and fundraisers we have raised. It is a mitzvah to do tzedakah and we have been doing that this year.

My favourite part of being an SRC leader is that we could come up with fun activities and mufti days in support of different charities. Like one day when the Friendship Circle came in it was so much fun – there was a man called Mr Friendship, who came and gave everyone high fives, or that time where we got lost in the lift trying to find lost property. (We will try to forget that happened). All in all I enjoyed pretty much everything about SRC.

As I go into High School, I give my best wishes to the 2023 SRC Leaders and I hope they enjoy it just as much as I did and I hope they continue giving Tzedakah and doing charity work. I hope that the 2023 SRC Leaders will enjoy being part of SRC just as much as I have.

From the Library Leaders

This year we loved our role as the 2022 Library Leaders.

Our most memorable moment of our role was getting the privilege of talking to a famous author. In Term 3, Belinda Murrell visited the school and we got to personally thank her for sharing all her insight and knowledge about her life as an author. She was very interactive with us and loved answering our questions.

We also really enjoyed coming into the library each week and putting up displays. The displays contain any books that we recommended or have not been borrowed in a while, to draw their attention to these books. I know that the way I found my favourite books was searching through shelves to find books for the display.

Our best wishes go to the future 2023 Library Leaders. We hope you have so much fun, and make sure you attend all the meetings, they are so fun and I loved planning out all the activities for the younger and older year groups with Mrs Rogut and Ms Condon.
