Rabin House makes history!

Swimming carnival

This Wednesday, the much-awaited results of the swimming carnival were announced at the combined House Assembly. The House Captains had prepared a fine presentation with photos and highlights from the recent carnival. It was great to see how much fun we all had with students enjoying the day and giving their best.

Rabin House once again had high participation, fine individual efforts and we excelled in the relays, taking home several 1st and 2nd placements through teamwork, passion and skills. The excitement went on throughout the day, as talented swimmers from all of the Houses ensured the lead was traded back and forth, before the Rabin relay teams sprinted home a record 3rd successive win for our House.

Our House Captains, Head of House and Tutors commend all of you on your efforts and we look forward to celebrating together at our next House Assembly. We also congratulate the students who were fortunate to reach new heights and become Age Champions and/or set new records. Amazing achievements!

Camp Somerset

Last Friday afternoon, we welcomed home Year 7, Year 8, Peer Support leaders and Tutors from Camp Somerset. It had been a very rewarding experience for the students who bonded, made new friendships, learned new skills new and tested their comfort zones, while having fun. The camp could not have been a success without the accompanying Tutors – Mr Furman, Mr Helm, Ms Adelstein, our Peer Support Leaders – Maddalena Grigoletti-Labi, Daniel Van Sluys Erlich, Sarah Sharwood, Adam Riesel, Joel Ehrlich, Ashlee Orleow and our Year 7 Co-ordinator Mrs Minton who tirelessly supported, engaged and encouraged our youngest Rabinites.

A couple of our Peer Support Leaders reflected on their experiences:

My experience as a Peer Support leader on the recent Year 7 camp was truly incredible. The connections and friendships I made with the younger students, along with the awesome activities we did, made the camp an experience I will never forget. The most memorable moment for me actually occurred along the entire week, and this was watching the kids bond as a group and become more comfortable with one another. It felt really good seeing new friendships develop right before my eyes, spurred on by the effort of us Peer Support leaders, to make Rabin Year 7 one cohort where all felt comfortable and happy in each other’s presence. I remember being in Year 7 and looking up to my own peer support leaders, and this is what I tried to be to the younger students – a role model. Daniel Van Sluys Erlich

Being a Peer Support Leader at camp was for me was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I enjoyed every second of it whether it was talking with the younger students at activities or running a program with them. Knowing that I helped some of them with problems and that they felt comfortable enough to come up to me is an amazing feeling.  Overcoming my own fear of heights and watching the kids encourage each other and push each other out of their comfort zones was incredible. Peer support is an experience that I wish everyone could have. Even now back into school, away from the camp, I always get hellos and smiles from the bonds and inside jokes that I made with the kids – It is a wonderful feeling. I hope that in the future everyone gets to experience something like it. Maddalena Grigoletti-Labi

Going on Year 7 Camp for the second time, as a Peer Support Leader, was an amazing and extremely fulfilling experience. Not only did I get to experience some of the amazing activities and program again, but I also got to spend four days with a group of awesome Year 7 students! I saw huge changes and achievements from the Year 7s, and even within myself and the other Peer Support Leaders. As Peer Support Leaders, we had the space to create programs and activities to run for the kids. It was amazing to see the participation and enthusiasm displayed by the students! We created incredible bonds, and I loved every single moment. Altogether, I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience this camp with my fellow Peer Support Leaders and a great group of students. Adding to the experience, the teachers who attended were so helpful and contributed to the smooth running of the camp. Sarah Sharwood

Going on Year 7 camp as a Peer Support Leader was by FAR the most fulfilling experience I have had at Emanuel School and I can only imagine how much I will enjoy the rest of the semester. Working together with the Peer Support Group was great much thanks to the teachers and camp leader. My favourite activity was Base 7. Running down off the hill as the Year 7s arrived with camo outfits on, just made my week. It was a real bummer to have to hop on the busses and say goodbye to Camp Somerset. Luckily, I will never say goodbye to the memories. Adam RieselThat’s the Bugle for this week. We hope everyone has a great weekend and congratulations again on winning the Swimming Carnival.
