Holiday Enrichment Programs

Over the summer break, there are a variety of learning opportunities for students who would like additional enrichment experiences.

Here are a few of our suggested Summer programs:

BRAINways Summer Camp

Thursday 5 January 2023 – Friday 6 January 2023

Based on the research suggesting that gifted students benefit from the availability of choice, the Summer Camp Program allows the students to select from the two streams available. In the first day of the program, each stream introduces the students to four different topics. The extended, uninterrupted engagement with a topic was also demonstrated to be of benefit to gifted students. Therefore, the second day of the program will give the students the opportunity to select one of the four topics introduced and explore it in depth.

Some of the topics for 2023 include:

Stream 1 (Years 2-4)

  • Playground mathematics
  • The secret language of insects
  • The science of invisibility
  • A world in multiple dimensions

Stream 2 (Years 5-8)

  • The psychology of irrational decisions
  • Is this a dream? A philosophical investigation
  • The science of procrastination
  • Where to words come from?

Places are filling fast, so register your interest early.

GERRIC Junior Scientia Workshops

Monday 9 January 2023, Tuesday 10 January 2023 and  Thursday 12 January 2023 (Online student program)
Wednesday 11 January 2023, Thursday 12 January 2023 and Friday 13 January 2023
(On campus student program)

The Junior Scientia program is designed for gifted and talented primary school students in Years 3-6. To participate in the program, students will select one three-day workshop from a range of options.

All workshops are developed and presented by experienced teaches who are qualified or experienced in gifted education. They possess the expertise and skills to encourage the interested and pique the curiosity of gifted children.

To provide an appropriate level of rigour and challenge for gifted students, the level of difficulty of the workshops is set two years above the enrolled school level of the child. The workshop structure is also designed to further develop social skills and provide an opportunity for gifted students to meet like-minded peers with similar interests.

Primary Chess Tournament

Throughout the year, our chess enthusiasts in Years 3-6 have been coming together at lunchtimes on a Wednesday to play games and learn tactics. We have been lucky enough to have a group of secondary school students who have also organised a tournament to run during Semester Two.

Last week, the tournament came to a conclusion and prizes were awarded to the following students:

First place: Jonah Vitek
Second place: Brody Reid
Third place: Jesse Churnin
Most improved: Aitan Marks

We are eternally grateful for the guidance and assistance provided by our secondary chess players. The students love spending time with them and their demeanour with the younger students is a delight to watch.
