Hamantaschen Bake

In helping spread the simchah of Purim, 42 of our High School students joined in the JEMS CTEEN Hamantaschen Bake. Thousands of hamantaschen were baked for the unwell and senior citizens of our community. Fulfilling the mitsvah of misloach manot, the sending of food portions, our students contributed to the caring spirit of this holiday, as proclaimed in the Megillah:

על כן היהודים…עושים את יום ארבעה עשר לחודש אדר שמחה ומשתה…ומשלוח מנות איש לרעהו

Therefore the Jews make the 14th day of the month of Adar a day of gladness and feasting..and of sending food portions to one another.

Rabbi Daniel Siegel

Last Wednesday, 21 February, 42 Emanuel students populated Our Big Kitchen as part of the JEMs organisation and got ready to contribute to make 3500 hamantaschen for the elderly and the needy this Purim. The number of students from High School ready to give up their time and contribute to the community was impressive and something we should be proud of. Due to the dedication and service of the 42 students, this Purim we are so thankful to receive a generous amount of hamantaschen, curtesy of JEMs! Making the actual hamantaschen proved quite difficult in the beginning however by the 20th hamantaschen made, technique began to develop and we were able to churn out trays and trays every few minutes! Thank you to all the students who participated and contributed to the community and our School in a brilliant way.
